Valérie Rochette
Janick Arseneau
I was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick. I started dancing at the age of 3. I trained at Dance Acadie. Dance has always been a part of me and helped me get through the difficult times in my life. The dance studio was my home. I took classes in jazz, lyrical, ballet, hip-hop and tap. I always knew I wanted to dance and make a living from my passion. One of my biggest goals as a youngster was to be part of “So You Think You Can Dance Canada”. I knew the chances of succeeding were slim, coming from a small town, but I never let the negative comments get to me. I finished high school and moved to Montreal to pursue my dance career. I left everything behind and went off on my own at the young age of 17. Since my move, my dance career has taken off and I’ve accomplished many of the goals I set for myself. One of them was So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Not only did I achieve this goal, but I placed in the Top 4 – finalist. I then danced in Ubisoft’s video game ‘The Micheal Jackson The Experience’ for the Xbox 360 Kinect. I assisted alongside Megan Lawson (FanyPack) and Phil ‘Packman’ Shbeeb (IamMe) for Cirque du Soleil’s Micheal Jackson The Immortal Tour choreographed by NappyTabs. I danced in the movie ‘Mirror Mirror’ with star Julia Roberts. I danced in the film ‘Make your move 3D’ choreographed by NappyTabs, directed by Duane Adler and starring Derek Hough and BoA. I was on America’s Best Dance Crew Season 7 with Irratik. I danced for Ceelo Green, Def Leppard, Melissa Etheridge and Kelly Clarkson on La Voix. I danced on the Bell Centre stage for artists Marie-Mai and Matt Duff. The latter will be broadcast on NETFLIX. I danced in the film Step Up 5: All In. At 25, I moved to Los Angeles and danced with Jennifer Lopez for 3 years in Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood’s Axis Theater as her first job in the States. I also danced in her music videos “Ain’t your mama”, “Dinero”, “El Anillo” and “Limitless”. I traveled to Qatar, New York and other places with her. I danced with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart at the MTV Movie Awards, choreographed by Janelle Ginestra. I danced with Hailee Steinfeld at the RDMAs and with Rihanna at the VMAs, both choreographed by Parris Goebel. I’ve also had the chance to dance with artists like Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Pitbull, Kanye West, Teyanna Taylor, Ja Rule, and many others. I now live in Montreal and own my own professional dance company Bee-Yond Belief with my partner. We value personal growth and self-love. We take a holistic approach and provide a healthy space for our dancers to be themselves, all training to a high caliber. As a nonbinary person in an LGBTQ+ couple, I am passionate about my community and jump at any opportunity to represent well and be a healthy person for all. I value inclusivity and diversity. Even though I’ve achieved so many of my dreams, my goals don’t stop there. I believe that as a dancer, as a choreographer, as a mentor and as a person, we always have more to learn and accomplish. I’m a student of life, and for life. If you can dream it, then it can become a reality.
